“For this al fresco inspired editorial, I adored getting to play with the texture of cane in the chairs and chargers as well as that great leather string detailing on the gold flatware,” Skylar says.
Texture obviously plays a big role in many of Skylar’s design, but at the heart of it all, classic sophistication is what she strives for. “My design aesthetic is classic and timeless, while still feeling modern and elegant. I like a variety of styles, color palettes and moods. This diversity is what makes working with my couples so rewarding and fun. My signature look can be described as ‘effortless elegance’, which gives each event a feeling of ease as well as a seamless aesthetic that flows throughout the day. It’s about creating a design that my clients will still be in love with 20, 50 or even 70 years from now!”

For Skylar, it’s all about creating personal, meaningful details that help tell a story. “Leigh Ann and Grant had their first date at a tiki bar,” she explains. “Since then they’ve made visiting tiki bars while traveling a must on all of their itineraries. It was a blast to create a tiki-themed cocktail hour experience for guests, including: a fully-stocked tiki bar, fun custom illustrated signage and a macrame escort card display. It was the perfect touch of kitsch and personality without drenching the whole wedding (from ceremony to send-off) in all things tiki. I loved being able to include something that was personal to the couple, while keeping with the timeless, elegant aesthetic we strive to provide for our couples.”
Skylar knows wedding planning can seem overwhelming at times and really tries to remind her couples how to get out of that head space and back to one of contentment. “Take a breath. It’s so tempting to dive in head first the second you get engaged, and go full steam ahead into wedding planning mode. This may be hard to believe as a professional planner, but my husband and I chose to wait a month after getting engaged to even talk about the wedding! It was such a sweet time of enjoying this short, yet unique period in our relationship that we’ll never get back. I’d encourage any bride-to-be to create space and wedding-free times during the planning process to ensure that they’re tending to their relationship as often as they’re tending to their to-do list.”
What wonderful advice from Skylar – you can tell she is quite the pro at what she does! To get in touch with Chancey Charm or to inquire about their wedding planning services for your own big day, reach out through their vendor profile on Brides of Houston!
